Keith McCurdy, ED.S., L.P.C., L.M.F.T.

Keith has worked with families, children, parents, and individuals for over 35 years in the field of mental health. He received his Master of Arts and Education Specialist degrees from James Madison University.  He is currently the President and CEO of Total Life Counseling, Inc., and is licensed in the state of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

Keith provides counseling and consulting services as well as a variety of workshops on improving parenting skills, building strong marriages, and maintaining healthy relationships. He has developed and regularly offers parenting retreats entitled “Raising Sturdy Kids” to help parents operate from the correct paradigm with their children and has extended and customized this powerful program for schools and students. 

For many years Keith has been a nationally recognized  consultant and speaker to corporations and schools both within and outside of the world of Classical Education and he is the founder of Live Sturdy, LLC.  He is regularly featured on multiple podcasts including BaseCamp Live and the Circe Institute, speaking on topics related to raising sturdy kids and building sturdy marriages.  A significant part of his work has been helping parents understand the needed benefit of allowing their children to struggle to learn to do hard things.

He previously served as Chairman of the Board at Faith Christian School, a Christian classical school in Roanoke, VA. Keith is an avid outdoorsman and previously has been actively involved with Boy Scouts of America and coaching high school basketball.  He has been married for 27 years and has two adult children.

Stephen K. Price, M.A., L.P.C., L.M.F.T.​

​Steve has over 20 years of experience working with individuals and families.  He received a Bachelors degree from Virginia Tech in Sports Management and a Masters degree from Liberty University in Professional Counseling. He is currently the Vice-President of Total Life Counseling, Inc. and is licensed in the state of Virginia as a Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist.

Steve uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral, reality and brief therapies to counsel adults, adolescents and families. His areas of special interest include managing anxiety and depression, parenting, and relational skills. Steve seeks to equip people to build confidence, set and enforce boundaries, achieve life goals and foster communication in relationships. 

Steve is a former youth pastor and enjoys consulting and speaking at seminars and workshops.  He remains active with the youth in his local church and High School and also coaches youth recreation baseball.

Steve is married and has three children. He enjoys participating in a variety of outdoor sporting activities with his family.

Byron Branham, M.A., L.P.C., N.C.C

​Byron received his Masters in Counseling from Regent University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He is also a Nationally Board Certified Counselor, member of the American Counseling Association, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, EMDR therapist (EMDRIA approved), and a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist. He received his Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College and an Associate’s degree in Religious Studies from Liberty University.

Byron strives to create a safe and supportive therapeutic experience where the client feels empowered and accepted. He provides treatment for emotional challenges such as: anxiety, anger, and depression, as well as relational problems, marriage and family issues, grief, ADHD, autism, sexual and process addictions, and intellectual disability. Byron counsels children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, and is available for educational talks and presentations on a variety of mental health topics.

Byron is a U.S. Navy veteran. His military experience led him to enter the mental health field, specializing in the treatment of trauma and PTSD. He has effectively assisted a broad spectrum of clients from many walks of life, including military veterans and first responders, their families, and survivors of tragedy and crime.

Byron enjoys the outdoors, literature, and playing gospel and bluegrass music. He is married and has an adult daughter and step-son.

Charles A. Rife, ED.S., M.DIV., L.P.C., L.M.F.T.

​Chuck Rife has 35 years of counseling experience. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Southeastern Bible College, an Education Specialist degree from Lynchburg College, a Master of Arts from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Divinity from Grace Theological Seminary. He is licensed as a professional counselor and marriage/family therapist by the state of Virginia.

Chuck works with individuals, couples, and families, treating emotional, behavioral, and relationship problems. His clinical expertise includes treating depression, anxiety, panic, anger, grief/loss, substance abuse, addictive behaviors, abuse (sexual, physical, and emotional). He leads groups for codependency, addictive/compulsive behaviors, and adult children of dysfunctional families.

Chuck and his wife, Eileen, conduct marriage seminars in the states and overseas, host a blog and website. They coauthored several books together including Sex as God Designed It.  Chuck also serves as an online adjunct professor in the behavioral sciences department for Liberty University. 

Chuck has been married to Eileen for 39 years. They have three married daughters, all serving the Lord around the world in full-time mission work. They have seven grandchildren. Chuck enjoys golfing, skating, an occasional Bed & Breakfast outing with Eileen, and playing with the grands.

David W. Peterson, D.MIN., L.P.C.

​As a Licensed Professional Counselor, David founded Total Life Counseling, Inc. (1980) and Psychiatric Day Hospital (1987). His preparation and ongoing education include studies in General Science from Houghton College, Psychology at Syracuse University, Marriage and Family Counseling at Virginia Tech, Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Liberty University.

David’s passion is to assist people with anxiety and worry, depression, stress management, communication, and esteem issues. Also, he works with reconciling, broken marriages, and directing children on the path to maturity.

I had the privilege of assisting Dr. Robert Brown to teach the Mental Health Course and co-author The Textbook for Mental Health for use at The University of Virginia. I am a Past President of Virginia Association of Clinical Counselors and have taught internationally. The Total Life training materials have been translated into Greek, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, and Spanish. I have taught a Bible study for 27 years.

Carolyn and I are the parents of four children and nine grandchildren. We enjoy family gatherings, boating, kayaking, and biking together. I, also, enjoy golfing and oil painting. I hope to have the privilege of working together with you to thrive in a challenging world.

Chris Miller, PhD, LPC

For more than 20 years, Chris has dedicated his career to the care and service of individuals in the Roanoke Valley. He holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies and M.S. in Counseling and Human Development. He is licensed in the state of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  

Chris provides counseling services to a broad range of populations and has enjoyed serving individuals from many walks of life and backgrounds.  He treats individuals with high regard and meets them where they are with no preconceived notions.  His kind and relaxed approach promotes an engaging atmosphere in the counseling process.  

Chris provides therapy for a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, panic, trauma, personality differences, high functioning adults on the autism spectrum,  along with emotional, behavioral, and thought differences. A particular interest is meeting and learning about individuals from different walks of life.

He is well studied in many fields and enjoys talking about and learning new ideas.  He has published two books and numerous articles related to the field of psychology.  Most importantly Chris is proud of his loving family.
